Replica Sledge Model
The Polar Museum, Scott Polar Research Institute, University of Cambridge
A commission for the Scott Polar Research Institute Cambridge, this miniature sledge is a replica of a model made by second-in-command Lieutenant Edward ‘Teddy’ Evans on Captain Robert Falcon Scott's British Antarctic Terra Nova Expedition 1910-13.
The sledges load includes a pyramid tent and poles, sledging boxes, a shovel, a pick-axe, a rope, a sledging wheel and fuel cans. It's fascinating to imagine the materials Teddy might have used to make this and the tools he might have fashioned as he whiled away the hours.
