MODEL + PROP MAKING / SCOTT POLAR RESEARCH INSTITUTE
A collection of facsimile objects we made for the Scott Polar Research Institute earlier this year, for an exhibition aboard the Viking Octantis cruise ship in Norway.
The models were replicas of equipment used by Robert Falcon Scott and Lieutenant Charles Royds on the British National Antarctic Expedition 1901-1904.
Objects included a pair of Inuit-style snow goggles, a carved mahogany contribution box for the South Polar Times, a letter cylinder, a carved walrus ivory drill bow illustrated with scenes of walrus-hunting, a shattered temperature thermometer and a lantern made by Lieutenant Charles Royds.
